How to setup a TP link router and get uninterrupted wi-fi signal.
In this simple way, you can expand your Wi-Fi network using a Tp Link router as a signal repeater so that it reaches all corners of your home.
It is the cheapest way to increase the Wi-Fi signal of a router by spending less money or using the old router that you keep in the drawer.
Thus, your Wi-Fi will reach every corner of your home or work with the necessary strength and you will be able to connect and navigate perfectly.
If you continue reading this manual, you will learn how to configure your router to connect a Wi-Fi repeater at home using another router.
That is, you are going to learn how to build your own homemade Wi-Fi repeater without spending any money on buying expensive signal extenders that are difficult to configure.
USE A TP LINK ROUTER AS A WI-FI REPEATER
This time we are going to use a Tp-Link TL-WR841n router, which is one of the simplest and cheapest that you will be able to find in the market.
But at the same time, it is a router that allows you to make a multitude of configurations and use it in different ways to improve your home network.
The configuration is exactly the same in any Tp-Link router model, even in the new ones where the software has evolved.
In this article we will explain how to use the router as if it were a Tp-Link Extender, that is, we will use it as a home Wi-Fi repeater.
That is, the Tp-Link TL-WR841n router will take the Wi-Fi signal from another router and repeat it, being able to change the name of the network if you wish.
CONFIGURE THE REPEATER ROUTER
The first thing you have to do is check that the Private IP of the repeater router, that is, its gateway, does not match the IP of the main router.
In the case of both devices having the same gateway, you will have to change the one of the repeater router to avoid an IP conflict.
So the first step will be to connect the router that you are going to use as a repeater to the computer in order to access its configuration.
Connect an Ethernet network cable to one of the yellow LAN outlets on the router and the other end to your computer.
Open the internet browser and type in the router’s gateway, using the default access codes of the device: admin/admin.
In the event that you have another configuration on your computer, we recommend that you factory reset the router before starting the configuration.
1. Change the Private IP of the Router
The first step is to verify that the gateways of both computers do not match to avoid an IP conflict.
In the event that the two routers have the same gateway, you will have to change the IP of the repeater router for a different one.
For example, if the main router uses the Private IP 192.168.0.1 you can change that of the repeater router to 192.168.1.1.
The change can be done within the Network / LAN settings of the repeater equipment, where you only have to set the new IP in the marked field.
Save the changes and reboot the device for the router IP change to take effect.
Enter the properties of the network adapter and put the new IP of the repeater router as the gateway and add a temporary IP.

2. Disable DHCP
The next step is to disable the DHCP of the repeater router since it will be the main router that manages the IP addresses.
Access the router’s DHCP settings and check the Disable option to disable the protocol.
3. Enable WDS Bridging
The third step is to activate the option that will allow the Tp Link router to function as a home Wi-Fi repeater.
To do this, the WDS Bridging option must be activated, which will make the device function as a bridge to the main device.

4. Select wifi network to repeat your signal
Once you have enabled the “Enable WDS Bridging” option you have to configure the new options that have appeared.
These new options will allow you to select the Wi-Fi network you want to repeat and enter its access data.
The fastest method is to use the Survey option to scan all the Wi-Fi networks that are within range and select the one you want to repeat.
In addition, this form will serve to verify that the repeater router can access the Wi-Fi signal that you are going to repeat without problems.
Click the Survey button and the router will begin scanning for available Wi-Fi networks within range.
After a few seconds, it will display a list of available networks, along with their MAC, SSID, signal strength, and security type.
For the Tp Link router to work as a Wi-Fi repeater, you have to locate the network you want to repeat and click Connect.
All the fields will automatically be completed with the data of the Wi-Fi network that you are going to repeat: SSID, MAC and Encryption.
You just have to enter the Wi-Fi password to be able to use the Tp-Link router as a repeater.

5. Rename the Wi-Fi network
If you want, you can change the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID) on the repeater so that you know at all times if you are connected to it.
Very useful option to know at all times if we are connected to the Wi-Fi of the main equipment or the repeater.
TEST THE CONNECTION OF THE ROUTER TP LINK AS A REPEATER
You just have to check that you have made the settings correctly and that the Tp Link router is working correctly as a home Wi-Fi repeater.
The best way is to do it from another computer, where the new network that you have configured should appear.
To connect to it, we just have to select it and enter the password for the main Wi-Fi network.
If everything has been configured correctly, you should connect without any problems.
You also have to remember one thing, you are using a router as a home wifi repeater.
For this reason, the speed of the repeated Wi-Fi will never be the same as the main computer network.
THE ROUTER CONNECTS TO THE WIFI BUT NO INTERNET CONNECTION
This problem usually appears when you are trying to use a router as a WiFi repeater from a different manufacturer than the main router.
In this case, you have to activate the access point option on the main router and add the MAC address of the router that you are going to use as a repeater.
You have the process explained in this article where we configure a router to use a Wifi repeater.
It’s that simple and straightforward to configure a Tp Link router as a repeater to expand your Wi-Fi and make it reach the whole house with more force.
